The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) having autonomous status became operational from January 1st, 1999 succeeding Corporate Law Authority, which had been administering the corporate laws in the country since 1981.

The establishment of the SECP is an important milestone in the evolution of the regulatory framework for the capital market in Pakistan. Commission has also been entrusted responsibility to regulate insurance business. Company registration offices of the Commission are situated in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad, Multan and Sukkur.
